Pillow is upholstery pouf (according to manufacturer categorization), 54cm high, made out of three cushions assembled in a discreet, invisible manner, creating a seat that permits as much movement as possible. The dominant characteristic of Pillow is the cushion, which attracts attention inviting the viewer with its softness and comfortable appearance. It can stand independently in the space or be organized in the group, opening the possibilities for interior designers to freely create the configuration. Its structure allows easy movement and manipulation.
Pillow is able to adapt to different interior design and architectural requirements. The variety of the colours and textures enabling the product to fit perfectly from the domestic space to the work environment, from the relaxed atmosphere of a lounge to the more dynamic context of a waiting room. In short, Pillow can be applied almost wherever seating is necessary.
Pillow is much more than a simple pouf, it is an idea. The designer wanted to join in one product, the role of the cushion that is present in different cultural contexts. The cushion historically belongs to both the nomadic and the static civilizations. We have used that the pillow appears as a decorative item that complements a sofa. On the other hand, in nomadic civilizations, numerous cushions thrown over the floor is used for seating. This idea was an inspiration and the starting point for Andrea Anastasio but he reinterpreted it in his manner appropriate for our civilization. As a result, we have Pillow chair with cushion used in a new way and a link between two civilizations and two traditions. This innovative and fresh chair meets the needs of contemporary living and diverse ways of organizing the space.
Andrea Anastasio and his work
Andrea Anastasio is an Italian designer, artist and philosopher. He combines his knowledge gained through research on nomadic cultures in Asia and the Middle East, innovation in traditional craftsmanship techniques with his imagination to create furniture and art objects.
In addition to Pillow, Anastasio’s designed other products like carpets, a series of trays in bisque porcelain, a series of vases centered on the concept of protection and fragility. His Filo lamp for Foscarini is the winner of Interior Design’s 2017 Best of Year award.
This minimalistic lamp is the mixture of light sculpture and design work. With the use of different materials as porcelain, textile cable, blown glass and varnished metal designer combines colours and textures putting in the first front the electrical wire as the main ornament of the lamp. He finds the Beauty in the component parts and proves that beauty can be found even where you do not expect it. He achieves the right balance of the components which together create a truly unique whole in a functional product with strong appeal.
Anastasio’s work is deeply inspired by his travels and constant contacts with the Orient.
His designs are characterized by the use of materials that are contrasting in its make-up and origin. He successfully plays with contrast like hard/soft, fragile/strong, industrial /craft technical, like on the vases he created.
With this design approach and design realized Andrea Anastasio appear like a link between two worlds.
