Studio unPIZZO is not an ordinary studio. On their site unPIZZO is described as a design studio and textile handcrafts laboratory qualified in knot works for home furnishing.
Agnese Selva, a graphic designer and Bettina Colombo, a scenographer established it 2014. The question is what connect graphic designer and scenographer? In this case it is a love to ancient techniques. These two designers are trying to revive the ancient art of bobbin lace and to incorporate it in a new product but with a contemporary taste. To achieve this aim they perform a lot of work from design to prototyping and experimentation to the realization of the items.
Till now, Studio unPIZZO realized (design and manufactured) a lot of unique products like rags, handmade baskets …or necklaces. Agnese Selva and Bettina Colombo also designed and produce the lace for the product designed by others. They have collaboration with famous architects like Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, Piero Lissoni, Luis Arrivillaga, Carlo Mareland and many of their chair, screens has unPIZZO recognisable touch.

Traditional craftsmanship brings the additional value
Recently,unPIZZO studio designed Tramae, for B&B Italia Outdoor collection (2020).
This new ottoman is with the frame made of polyethylene and interlacing from polypropylene fibre braid. The ordinary hexagonal shape is ‘softened’ with slightly rounded edges. Tramae is a simple product but even so attracts attention. The reason is an exclusive weave technique used for the realization of the cover.
This polypropylene fibre wave represents contemporary reinterpretation the tradition of wicker basket making. The specific play with colours used (3 on each product) gives the dynamism to the surface. The combination of the colours create 3D effect. The cover poses an interesting texture thanks to the characteristic of the fibre.
Tramae can be dismantled completely so that each component can be separated and disposed of in the best way for each material.
This small object will bring a cheerful atmosphere in the outdoor space.
Tramae is a proof that the combination of the ancient techniques and the contemporary approach can bring the additional value to the product.
